(4/10/22) I’m  thrilled to be named a 2022 Guggenheim Fellow! I will be using this fellowship to continue working on a sound installation performance work using Isamu Noguchi‘s Sounding Stones as musical instruments. Here’s a glimpse of my work with one of them:

(10/23/21) I’m very excited to announce a new collaboration with children’s author and illustrator, Grace Lin. (7/8/18) As part of In Plain Air, I will be doing a music-box making workshop at the Philadelphia Magic Gardens Peco Family Jams.

Inspired by Isaiah Zagar’s mosaics, I will be working with the community to create a 400-foot music box strip for a performance in Philadelphia this September. During this hands-on family workshop, each participant will create a one-foot section of my music box mosaic. We will explore music boxes and create music by drawing on and punching holes in special music box paper. Performances of In Plain Air by the International Contemporary Ensemble are free, making it possible for all participants in this workshop to attend and hear/see the community artwork we will be creating together!

(5/17/18) As part of In Plain Air, I did a whistle-building workshop with Ranjit Bhatnagar at the Architecture Charter High School in Philadelphia. The mini pipe whistles were laser-cut by Ranjit at the NYC Resistor and brought to the workshop ready for the students to assemble! We ended up with 17 miniature pipe whistles–all of which will be performed by ICE members for In Plain Air. Here’s a few of them made with maple or bamboo.

(11/30/17) In preparation for the 2017 UnCaged Toy Piano Festival, here is an interview with  I Care If You Listen.

(6/19/17) Through the Pew Center for Arts and Heritage, Christ Church preservation received a generous grant to commission Nathan Davis and myself to write a new work for its new custom-built pipe organ…the Fisk 150.  Christ Church is a National Historic Landmark, with significant historic figures as parishioners such as Ben Franklin, George Washington, Betsy Ross and John Adams. The organ will sound out the new piece as part of the Philly Fringe Fest in 2018.

(10/20/16) The 2017 UnCaged Toy Piano is accepting submissions! I am excited to be teaming up with the Conlon Foundation (NL) this year to search for new works written for Robot Toy Piano built (from a modified/broken Piano Lodeon) by Ranjit Bhatnagar. The winning work will be presented as part of the prestigious Gaudeamus Muziewiek (NL) and the UnCaged Toy Piano Festival (NYC.) (9/1/16) I am excited to join the Fine and Performing Arts faculty at SUNY New Paltz to teach Practices in Experimental Music.
